About the BIDC

The Business and Industry Data Center (BIDC) program is an ongoing initiative of the U.S. Census Bureau to make economic data and statistics more widely available at the state and local levels. The Texas Office of the Governor's Economic Development & Tourism (EDT) division participates in this program through agreements with the U.S. Census Bureau and the Texas State Data Center and Office of the State Demographer at the University of Texas at San Antonio. EDT's participation in the BIDC program provides a cost effective way to deliver the economic research and data services required under Texas Government Code 481.211-212, as state participation in the U.S. Census Bureau's program requires no direct outlay of state funds.  The U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis provide selected government data to BIDC participants at no cost. State law requires EDT to share selected data and statistics with other agencies and organizations in order to facilitate easier access by the general public. Through its participation in the BIDC program, EDT has developed formal relationships with agencies and organizations around the state that can help efforts to provide Texas businesses and communities with economic data services.

All of the organizations affiliated with the BIDC program maintain some level of economic data, in print and/or electronic formats, from the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. Texas BIDC affiliates provide information and/or value-added data products to their target customers within their particular areas of economic expertise, as indicated below.
