Nov 12, 2009 - Austin FilmWorks Feature Lap Registering for Spring 2010

Austin FilmWorks is now accepting student registrations for the FEATURE LAB sequence for Spring 2010.

FEATURE LAB is Steve Mims' demanding filmmaking class sequence which requires students to produce two short films and play a key role on a class-produced feature length film.

Divided into three levels, FEATURE LAB begins with Production One, and follows with Production Two and Three: introductory, intermediate and advanced courses designed to create an individual short, a group short and a group feature in an intense 16-month, four semester program.

The sequence is designed to cross-train all the students to contribute and learn from other students and projects developed during the 16-month period. The program's objective is to foster three collaborative and closely-knit filmmaking teams. To achieve this FEATURE LAB's class meetings overlap, requiring students to work together at all levels.

Class meets on Monday evenings on the following schedule: Production One: 6:00 to 7:30pm, Production Two: 7:45 to 8:45, Production Three: 9:00 to 10:00pm.

Students who complete the sequence will finish with an individual short film, a short film created in a small group and a key role and screen credit on a feature film.

Steve Mims is a long-time Austin filmmaker and teacher (U.T. Austin and Austin FilmWorks) whose award-winning short films, music videos and features have screened widely in festivals and on television.
