Jan 24, 2012 - Texas-Made THE TREE OF LIFE Nominated for Three Academy Awards


Fox Searchlight / River Road Entertainment's THE TREE OF LIFE, released to critical acclaim in 2011, has been nominated for three Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Cinematography. The staff of the Texas Film Commission, Office of Texas Governor Rick Perry, worked extensively with the film's production team to research and recommend Texas locations. THE TREE OF LIFE was filmed in the spring and summer of 2008 in Smithville, Austin, Bastrop, Matagorda, La Grange Houston and Dallas, Texas, with extensive use of Texas film crew, actors and film industry support services. THE TREE OF LIFE won the prestigious Palme d'Or at the Cannes International Film Festival in May 2011.

THE TREE OF LIFE is nominated in the following Academy Award categories:

  • Best Picture
  • Best Directing - Terrence Malick
  • Best Cinematography - Emmanuel Lubezki
