Feb 17, 2012 - San Antonio Film Commission Announces Filmmakers Across Borders Summit
The San Antonio Film Commission, a division of the San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau, announces the filmmakers across_borders film summit discussing cross-cultural creative collaboration in independent cinema. The event is slated for Friday February 24, 2012 at the historic Guadalupe Theater in the heart of San Antonio's westside.
The event is a one-day summit discussing collaboration between Latin American and U.S. filmmakers, with a host of guests from the U.S. and Mexico. Join producer Ted Hope (ADVENTURELAND, SUPER and THE ICE STORM), actor/director/writer Plutarco Haza (BAJO LA SAL, LAS APARICIO and HUGO VS EL MAR), producer Don Franken (THE KID: CHAMACO), producer Victor Orozco (PROPIEDAD AJENA) and others for a day of insight and discussion.
Acclaimed producer Ted Hope will open the summit with commentary on the role of cross-cultural collaboration in the cinema of tomorrow. Among Hope's many notable productions are 21 GRAMS, which earned two Academy Award nominations and five British Academy of Film and Television Arts nominations, IN THE BEDROOM which earned five Academy Award nominations, and the Cannes Critics' Prize-winning HAPPINESS.
"Collaboration between creative individuals has been a critical part of the film and television industry," notes film commission director Drew Mayer-Oakes, "but we haven't seen a lot of discussion about what lies ahead for U.S. and Latin American producers, writers, directors and actors in this regard. This event is only the beginning of that discussion of creative collaboration." The filmmakers across_borders film summit was created by Plutarco Haza and Drew Mayer-Oakes, and will be streamed live on the internet via www.ustream.com.
Hosted by Univision's Alfredo Lomeli, the one-day event leads directly into the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center's 2012 CineFestival, the nation's longest-running Latino film festival. The festival begins Saturday, February 25th.
