Aug 1, 2012 - KHOU Films Added to Texas Archive of the Moving Image Collection
The Texas Archive of the Moving Image (TAMI) announces the launch of the KHOU Collection, a selection of films from the Houston Metropolitan Research Center (HMRC) digitized through a TexTreasures grant from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC). Fifteen films from the collection are featured on the TAMI website showcasing KHOU's news coverage of Houston from 1962 to 1972. Highlights include footage of George H.W. Bush, Barbara Jordan, Robert Kennedy, Lyndon Baines Johnson, Ronald Reagan, Dr. Michael DeBakey and John Connally as well as stories about NASA and the Astrodome.
TAMI received a TexTreasures Grant to digitize 125 films from HMRC's KHOU Collection. Additional films from the collection are featured on the Houston Public Library website. TexTreasures grants provide assistance to increase accessibility to library treasures and helps Texas public and academic libraries provide access to their special or unique local collection holdings by making information about these holdings available to library users across the state.
TAMI is an independent non-profit organization founded in 2002 to discover, preserve and make accessible, and serve community interest in Texas' moving image heritage. The organization's main project is the TAMI video library, an ever-growing collection of Texas-related films. More information may be found online or contacting contacting 512-485-3073 and .
