Aug 6, 2012 - Texas Film Round-Up Returns to El Paso's Plaza Classic Film Festival


A partnership between the Texas Archive of the Moving Image (TAMI) and the Texas Film Commission, the Texas Film Round-Up is a statewide effort to preserve and celebrate home movies, advertisements, local television, industrial films, feature films and other Texas-related moving images. Traveling to locations across the state, the Round-Up is both a drop-off site for TAMI's free digitization program and an educational event highlighting Texas moving image history through film screenings, demonstrations, lectures and interactive exhibits.

The Round-Up will be at the Plaza Classic Film Festival in El Paso accepting films and videos for free digitization Saturday August 11 and Sunday August 12 from 12 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the Plaza Theatre lobby. Click here for more information.

On Saturday August 11, TAMI will present El Paso Discoveries: Texas Film Round-Up. Featuring selections from the more than 1,000 films contributed during the past two Round-Ups during the festival, this curated program includes footage of the Sun Carnival dating back to 1938, Lon Chaney's 1964 appearance at Western Playland, the 1972 Farah Strike and some special surprises. The screening will be at 1:30 p.m. at the The Plaza Classic Film Festival at the Plaza Theatre Philanthropy Theatre.

Held August 2 - 12, the Plaza Classic Film Festival presents a program of classic films, art exhibits and presenations by filmmakers and actors. This year's highlights incude appearances by Al Pacino, Mary Badham, Tippi Hedren and Eva Saint Marie. Click here for the festival website.
