Latest Ike Update from DPS
More than 1,000 Highway Patrol, Criminal Law Enforcement, Driver License and Texas Ranger personnel continue to work in Southeast Texas. Additional officers have been moving into the area over the past several days, replacing those who have been working since before Hurricane Ike made landfall. Policing activities include restricting access to damaged locations, traffic management, security and other duties as necessary. DPS Disaster District operations centers remain activated in Houston, Beaumont, Lufkin and Tyler to help coordinate state agency resources in their respective areas.Department of Public Safety

Latest Ike Update from DPS
DPS continues a preplanned relief rotation to infuse fresh personnel into the hurricane damaged areas. However, manpower remains constant, with more than 1,000 Highway Patrol, Criminal Law Enforcement, Driver License and Texas Ranger personnel taking part in sex offender compliance at shelters, restricting access to damaged locations, traffic escort duties, traffic management, providing security and damage assessment. Numerous DPS helicopters and airplanes are also still involved, and DPS Disaster District operations centers remain activated in Houston, Beaumont, Lufkin and Tyler to help coordinate state agency resources in their respective areas.Department of Public Safety

DPS Search and rescue efforts continue
Search and rescue efforts continue, but are starting to wind down. Troopers continue to provide security at POD sites as well as other areas needing extra law enforcement services. They also are providing traffic management and assisting with damage assessment. More than 1,000 troopers and several DPS air assets have been participating. DPS personnel have participated in countless rescue efforts. DPS Disaster District operations centers remain activated in Houston, Beaumont, Bryan, Lufkin and Tyler to help coordinate state agency resources in their respective areas.Department of Public Safety

Search, Rescue, Security, Traffic, and Damage Assessment Remain Top Priority for DPS
Department of Public Safety: Search and rescue efforts, security provision, traffic management and damage assessment remain priorities for DPS personnel. At least 1,000 troopers, eight helicopters (each with a Dive Team member) and four airplanes are taking part in post-hurricane activities. DPS personnel have participated in countless rescue efforts.
