    Texas Workforce Commission

    The Texas Workforce Commission has received approval for a $15.9 million National Emergency Grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to provide 600 temporary jobs to assist with disaster recovery, as well as to provide humanitarian assistance. TWC had taken nearly 65,000 unemployment claims as a result of Hurricane Ike.

    TWC had taken almost 11,000 claims as a result of Hurricane Ike. The agency has established temporary workforce centers in evacuation centers in Austin, Anderson, Bedias, Corsicana, Dallas, San Antonio, Fort Worth, Austin, and across the state to assist those affected by the disaster with assistance filing disaster-related unemployment claims.

    TWC is reaching out to all those who worked in the disaster counties to apply for disaster-related unemployment benefits. All hurricane-related employment assistance is posted on TWC’s hurricane information Web page at www.twc.state.tx.us, including statewide Tele-Center phone numbers and other helpful resources, including how to address hurricane-related employment discrimination.

    Texas Workforce Commission assists with hurricane-related empoloyment services

    Texas Workforce Commission

    A Disaster Unemployment Assistance press release was sent out this morning and all hurricane-related employment assistance is posted on TWC’s hurricane information Web page at www.twc.state.tx.us. TWC is coordinating post-storm activities in affected areas to ensure employment and unemployment services are provided with Local Workforce Development Boards.
