This year marks the first Christmas that the mansion has been decorated since the completion of its restoration this summer.

As the massive restoration of the Texas Governor’s Mansion nears completion, pieces from the historic Governor’s Mansion Collection are being moved back into the home. Owned by the state and the non-profit Friends of the Governor's Mansion, the collection was removed when the deferred maintenance project started in October 2007. The return of the collection marks the first stage of the move phase of the Governor’s Mansion restoration. The first family is expected to move back into the Governor’s Mansion, the home of 40 Texas governors, when the project is completed late next month.

Liz Geise has been named administrator of the Texas Governor's Mansion, where she will be responsible for the operation, use and maintenance of the Governor's Mansion and surrounding grounds. The mansion administrator works closely with the governor and first lady, and also coordinates with the State Preservation Board, Texas Historical Commission and Friends of the Texas Governor's Mansion to preserve the property. The mansion has served as the official residence for Texas governors and their families since 1856, is the fourth oldest continuously occupied governor's residence in the U.S., and the oldest governor's mansion west of the Mississippi River.
