The Music Therapy program at Sam Houston State University has developed into a thriving, energetic area recognized as one of the most distinguished in the Southwest. Our graduates have gone on to impressive positions as professional music therapists and have achieved recognition for their superior training and preparation. A Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy degree at SHSU provides the serious music student with a viable career alternative within the discipline of music. Completion of degree requirements (which include a 900-1,040-hour clinical internship at an approved site) allows the qualified student to sit for the Board Certification examination administered by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT). Successful completion of the examination results in the granting of the MT-BC credential (Music Therapist - Board Certified).
