Laredo Community College offers a two-year
program in music for transferable hours to a four-year music program. Concentrations
include Music Literature, Aural Training (computer-assisted), Theory, and Applied
Music courses. Performance opportunities include the Civic Symphony (35 members),
Choir (15 members), Opera Workshop (15 members), Guitar Ensemble (15 members),
Spanish Traditional Group (35 members), and Showband (15 members), Mariachi (15
members), String Chamber Group (10 members), Dance Groups (45 members). Performance
facilities include the Arena Theater, Kazen College Center and the Import/Export
Center and the Martinez Fine Arts Theatre.

degree plans include: courses in ensemble, applied study, music theory, aural
training, music history, music literature, piano proficiency component, and performance
studies. Dedicated to providing a well-rounded education, students must take courses
(TAMIU Core Curriculum) in the Visual and Performing Arts, History, Natural Science,
Communication, Mathematics, Humanities, Social and Behavioral Science, Political
Science, and Wellness. Students will also be afforded the opportunity to participate
in, as well as compete in, a variety of music festivals, clinics, and conferences
and have the opportunity to experience professional concerts, recitals, theatrical
productions and lectures sponsored by the University and presented by fellow students,
