East Texas Baptist University is a small
Christian university with a strong academic focus. Degrees offered include a Bachelor
of Arts in Music, Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance, Bachelor of Music in
Piano Performance, Bachelor of Music in Sacred Music, and a Bachelor of Music
in Music Education (all-level). Performance opportunities include the Concert
Band and Marching Band (50) directed by Dr. Brent Farmer (903-923-2158), Concert
Choir (903-928-2162) directed by Jim Moore (ext. 290), Chapel Choir (40) directed
by Jim Moore, University Singers (20) directed by Jim Moore, Handbell Choir (12)
directed by Dr. Tom Webster, Opera Workshop (20) directed by Dr. Ray Herman, and
Jazz Ensemble directed by Dr. Doug Lockard. Instrumental Chamber Ensembles are
available and conducted by the various members of the instrumental faculty. Performance
facilities include the Jenna Guest Music Building, as well as the Mabee Recital
Hall (168 seats) and Baker Auditorium (1,500 seats), both furnished with Kawai
pianos and recording capabilities. A Steinway 9 foot grand is available in the
recital hall.

Wiley College is an historically
Black college founded in 1873 and affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
Our goal is to provide students with a good learning environment that includes
music as an essential part. The Department of Music offers a Bachelor of Arts
in Piano and Voice and a Bachelor of Science in Music Education. In addition to
a full range of music education courses, we offer courses in music history and
music theory. Wiley College has a long history of maintaining an open door admission
