Wayland Baptist University provides intensive
education in music for students who plan to enter music as a career; a broad-based
liberal arts education in music for students not interested in a professional
career; and gives every student an opportunity to gain cultural knowledge of music
as part of his/her academic preparation. We offer a Bachelor of Music in Church
Music or Music Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Music or Church Music/Religious
Education Composite. A minor in music is available for students enrolled in any
degree program. The Bachelor of Music degree is designed to allow maximum flexibility
for students to pursue personal interests in individual and group performance
and to gain experience teaching and leading in the fields of music education and
church music. Internships are required of all students involved in Church Music
and Music Education. All students are required to develop performing skills through
applied music study and performance through membership in various campus ensembles.
Performance opportunities include International Choir, Wayland Singers, Wayland
Singing Men, Wayland Singing Women, Pioneer Band, Pep Band, Wayland Handbell Ensemble,
The Brass Ensemble, Opera Theatre and Spirit. Contact Dr. Scott Herrington, Director
of Choral Activities or Tim Kelley, Director of Instrumental Studies for more
information. Performance facilities include the Harral Memorial Auditorium (1,500
seats); contact Brett Cox (806) 291-1081.
