Collin County Community College District offers two music degrees and one certificate: an Associate of Arts in Music, Associate of Applied Science in Commercial Music, and a Certificate in Audio Engineering. The Associate of Arts degree in music provides the approved field of study for all music majors intending to transfer upon degree completion to a college or university. The curriculum consists of a reduced general academic core of 31 credits plus 35 credits of the required music theory, ear training, keyboard skills, music literature, private applied study, and ensemble participation that all music majors must complete during their freshman and sophomore years. The Associate of Applied Science degree in Commercial Music offers real-world experience as well as the theoretical background needed to pursue a career in the music industry. This curriculum consists of a reduced general academic core of 16 credits plus 46 credits of music and commercial music courses that include audio engineering, music business, and MIDI. All coursework may also be applied towards the AAS in commercial music. Choral studies are under the direction of Kathy Morgan (972) 881-5653 and include: Collin County Chorale, Expressions (vocal jazz choir), and Chamber Singers. Instrumental Jazz studies are under the direction of Kris Berg (972) 881-5108 and include Jazz Lab Band and Jazz Combos. Other performance opportunities include: Keyboard Ensemble under Dr. Brian Allison (972) 881-5813, New Music under Dr. Christopher Morgan (972) 516-5010, Guitar Ensemble under Sabine Madriquera (972) 881-5107, Jazztet Two under Kevin McNerney (972) 881-5107. Performance facility is the John Anthony Theatre (365 seats).
