Wharton County Junior College offers an Associate of Arts degree with a concentration in music. The Music Department offers the complete curriculum for the first two years towards a Bachelor of Music. A student may major in brass, woodwinds, percussion, voice, piano or organ. The music program at Wharton employs current computer technology in many areas. Music directors are Joe Waldrop, Lee Lemson, and Jason Lester. Performance opportunities include Concert Band, Concert Choir, Jazz Band, Piano Ensemble and Chamber Singers. Performance facility on campus is the Horton Foote Fine Arts Theatre (323 seats; Dr. Paul Spellman, 409-532-6421).
