Sammons Jazz is the only regular ongoing jazz performance series in the Dallas-Fort Worth area featuring local jazz artists. If you enjoy jazz, you'll probably enjoy this showcase of local jazz artists in an intimate, relaxed, non-commercial and smoke-free setting . . . and at a nominal price for the evening! Sammons Jazz performances are developed around a theme (for example, a be-bop night or a jazz vocal night) and feature two performing groups; the fall series of Sammons Jazz runs from September through December; the spring series from February through May; Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30, ending by 10:00 p.m; there is a short intermission between the two groups; and many patrons appreciate the smoke-free environment of Sammons Jazz. Refreshments and valet parking included in ticket price. As an adjunct to Sammons Jazz, the Center has started a new series called Sammons Cabaret, taking place on the third Thursday of each month from February-May. See web site for details.

The 25th Annual National Cowboy Symposium & Celebration is September 5-8, 2013, at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center in Lubbock, Texas. The purpose remains to celebrate, preserve, and pass along our American Western heritage and cowboy culture for those who know and love it, and for those who have never known it before to learn from and enjoy it as well. The event includes entertainers, poetry and storytelling, western writers and authors panels, film and movie seminars, a Youth Wild West Day, horse-handling demonstrations, a horse-themed parade, Native American Indian activities and presentations, the ever-popular Chuck Wagon Cookoff, and exhibits of Western artworks and merchandise.
Featured this year are 80+ cowboy and cowgirl poets, 70+ musical acts, 30+ storytellers, some 200 exhibit spaces filled with the best in Western art and goods, 20+ chuck wagons, and more.

The Longview Jaycees Gregg County Fair and Expo features a wide variety of entertainment including an array of exhibits, a carnival, magic shows, local musical acts and the Miss Gregg County Pageant. Acts include: Cooke County Line Band, Mr. Jones Band, Coyote Moon Band, Lauren Anderson Band, and the Del Rio Band. Events include: Eugene Wilkes Magic Show, Show-Me-Safari Petting Zoo, Show-Me-Swine Racers, D.A.R.E. Texas GATORFEST is truly the most unique festival in the state, combining the alligator and family fun for a good old Texas two-stepping good time! Witness the Great Texas Alligator Roundup, take an airboat ride or a river boat tour, enjoy three stages of entertainment, Texas Artisans, merchants and the scenic waterfront beer garden. After five years of hosting their annual end-of-summer throw down at various locations throughout the state, the Toadies are taking the sixth Dia De Los Toadies to their hometown of Fort Worth. This year’s festival, set to feature a dozen bands performing across two stages, will take place on Saturday, September 14, at Panther Island Pavilion, just minutes from downtown Fort Worth. Per tradition, the band will also host an intimate “fireside/almost acoustic” showcase on Friday, September 13, the evening before their day-long bash.

Based in San Antonio, the International Accordion Festival has earned a reputation for innovative programming, featuring international performers of the highest caliber, and for a commitment to cultural education by initiating cross-cultural communication in workshops and performances. This FREE festival has established itself as one of the premier events in the Southwest. The accordion in Texas is a perfect vehicle through which to tell the story of immigrant America. And the musical tale of immigrant America examined closely unpacks the rich international roots of our heritage. Pittsburg’s biggest festival of the year is also the Chamber’s biggest event. The streets of Historic Downtown Pittsburg are blocked off as thousands of visitors shop the vendor booths on the main street, which feature both commercial and handcrafted items. Vendors and guests are encouraged to dress in period clothing. Some events include live entertainment, mule-driven wagon rides, cooking contests, quilt display, arts and crafts and tours of the Farmstead and Depot museums. There is live entertainment, carnival rides, bounce houses and a large kids activity center as well as a food court area with fair favorites. The Victoria County Czech Heritage Festival features live entertainment throughout the day with three dance bands. The Burleson County Fair is an old-fashioned fair featuring four days of fun and entertainment with a variety of local good food. The fair kick-off is a parade with Queen candidate floats, school bands, civic organizational floats, horses, and other entries. Attendees may watch the Junior Livestock shows, showmanship contests, Little Miss and Queens Contest, and visit the Creative Living Exhibits which include bake goods, crafts, handiwork and more. The fair concludes with the Youth Auction and featured entertainer. A carnival will also be on site with rides and games for all ages.

"Band Extravaganza" is the largest single annual music event in Lubbock. It features performances from each middle school band program and the marching shows from each high school. Guest performances by the Wayland University Band and the Texas Tech Goin' Band add to the excitement. This year, FallsFest turns 27! Since its beginning, FallsFest has continued to develop, improve, and evolve into the premier outdoor festival for the entire family. Yet again in 2011, FallsFest has been voted by the Wichita Falls community as Texoma's Best All-Around Event and Texoma's Best Festival. Endeavors to make this festival bigger and better began when the 73 member steering committee undertook their respective challenges in early 2012. Their dedication, along with over 1,700 League and community volunteers giving over 12,000 hours, will again bring to fruition another successful FallsFest. Local businesses also play a foundational role through their generous sponsorships. Continued faithful underwriting of FallsFest has allowed over $1,500,000 to be returned to the Wichita Falls community through partnering entities since 1986.

2012 is the 25th anniversary of the Texas Heritage Music foundation, started by Dr. Kathleen Hudson in July 1987. The Texas Heritage Music Day, held the last Friday of September, has evolved from living history to a showcase of genres of music, using stories and songs as another way of learning. More than 50 performers spread out on the Schreiner campus from 9-3 telling stories and singing songs. The event includes cowboy music, chuckwagons, Native American stories, and songwriters galore! Two songwriting workshops will be held at the Union Church on campus AND a songwriters workshop will be held on Saturday, September 29. Admission is free with grant money available to help schools in the Hill Country attend. Stage presentations include gospel, conjunto, songwriting, and a NOON tribute to Jimmie Rodgers. Food and drinks for sale at event.

For the last thirty-two years, the Medina Lake Cajun Festival has featured five top notch Cajun-French bands from Louisiana. The festival centers are two seperate stage areas, the Fais-Do-Do and the Gazebo Stage. Entertainment on the Fais-Do-Do Stage starts with the Bandaids Jazz Band, at 11 am, followed by two seperate Cajun French bands. The Gazebo Stage features three Cajun or Zydeco bands followed by two separate Cajun bands. The "Great Gumbo Cook-off" pits amateur, professional, and culinary groups against each other in the fight for the greatest gumbo, all of which visitors can sample. Authentically prepared Cajun food includes crawfish pies, jambalaya, crawfish etoufee, catfish, red beans and rice, Cajun popcorn shrimp and bread pudding with whiskey sauce. Other activities include arts and crafts, children's games, free parking and free shuttle service to the grounds. 11 am to 10 pm at the Hill Country Lakehills Civic Center in Bandera County Texas, 25 miles Northwest of San Antonio.

The 32nd Fall Pecan Street Festival will take place September 28th and 29th in the heart of Sixth Street. A FREE, family event, the Pecan Street Festival is an Austin Tradition. It’s the oldest and largest Art Festival in Central Texas. Local musicians provide entertainment on THREE stages, beginning at noon and continuing into the late evening hours, and proceeds benefit local non-profit organizations. The Pecan Street Festival invites Austin residents to bring their four legged friends to join in the fun.
