Gov. Perry Names Klaeger Chair of Texas Commission on Jail Standards
AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry has named Judge Donna Klaeger of Horseshoe Bay chair of the Texas Commission on Jail Standards. He also reappointed three members to the commission for terms to expire Jan. 31, 2015. The commission establishes standards for the care and treatment of county prisoners, and the construction, maintenance and operation of county jails.
Klaeger is Burnet County Judge. She is a member of the County Judge’s Association of Texas and Capitol Area Rural Transportation Planning Organization, and an officer on the Capitol Area Planning Council of Government’s Executive Committee. She is a past member of the FWR Leadership Texas Class and University of Texas Fellows Program. She replaces David Gutierrez of Lubbock as chair.
Irene Armendariz of El Paso is statewide vice president of network development and strategy for Superior HealthPlan. She is a member of the El Paso Chamber of Commerce and a volunteer with the United Way of El Paso. Armendariz received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Phoenix.
Gary Painter of Midland is the Midland County Sheriff. He is a member of the Texas Police Association, National Sheriff’s Association and Texas Jail Association. He is vice president of the Sheriff’s Association of Texas, and past director and past president of the Texas Association of Investigative Hypnotists. He is also a volunteer advisor for the Midland Crime Prevention Commission. Painter received a bachelor’s degree from Sul Ross University. He replaces David Gutierrez of Lubbock.
Tam Terry of White Deer is the Carson County Sheriff. He is vice president of the Panhandle Peace Officer Association, and a member of the Texas Division of the International Association for Identification and the Sheriff’s Association of Texas. Terry graduated from the Panhandle Regional Law Enforcement Academy in 1983.
These appointments are subject to Senate confirmation.
