Gov. Perry Names White Chair of Finance Commission of Texas
AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry has named William J. White chair of the Finance Commission of Texas and appointed Darby Ray Byrd Sr. of Orange to the commission for a term to expire Feb. 1, 2012. The commission ensures banks, savings institutions, consumer credit grantors, and other state-regulated financial entities operate responsibly to enhance the financial well-being of Texans.
White is vice president of Cash America International Inc. He is a member of the Community Financial Services Association and Public Affairs Council, and is chair of the Finance Commission’s Strategic Planning Committee. He is also a board member of the Kiwanis Foundation and past chairman of the Sun City Community Association Finance Committee. White received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
Byrd is retired president and CEO of Orange Savings Bank, and currently serves on the bank’s board of directors. He is a board member of the Lamar College Orange Foundation and Slade Foundation of Orange. He is also treasurer of the Francis Ann Lutcher Theater for the Performing Arts and chair of the Orange First United Methodist Church Hurricane Insurance Recovery. Byrd attended East Texas State University. He replaces John Snider of Center.
These appointments are subject to Senate confirmation.
