Gov. Perry Appoints Wilson to Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas Oversight Committee

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry has appointed Samuel “Phil” Wilson of Austin to the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas Oversight Committee for a term to expire Jan. 31, 2015. The committee guides the work of the institute, which is responsible for awarding an estimated $3 billion in grants over the next 10 years to expedite innovation in cancer research, attract and expand cancer prevention and treatment research capabilities.

Wilson is senior vice president of public affairs for Luminant and former Texas secretary of state. He is a former Texas border commerce coordinator, past member of the Border Security Council, and former designee of the Texas Emerging Technology Fund and Texas Enterprise Fund. Wilson received a bachelor’s degree from Hardin Simmons University and a Master of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University.
