Gov. Perry Appoints 10 Student Regents Across the State

Also Appoints One Student to Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry has appointed 10 student regents to their respective university systems, and one student representative to serve on the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, effective June 1, 2010 for terms to expire May 31, 2011.

Texas A&M University

Cresencio Davila of San Antonio is a student at Texas A&M University at San Antonio (TAMU-SA). He is president of the TAMU-SA Student Government Association and the Delta Beta Chapter of the Delta Mu Delta Fraternity. He is a member of the TAMU-SA Chancellor’s Student Advisory Board Executive Committee and TAMU-SA President’s Student Advisory Council. He is also a past director of the United Latin Ministries Inc. and past youth leader for the Iglesia Fuente de Agua Viva. Davila received a bachelor’s degree in accounting and is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration from TAMU-SA.

Midwestern State University

David Reyna of Wichita Falls is a student at Midwestern State University (MSU) and a marketing and sales representative for Falls Distributing Company. He is a member of the MSU Student Conduct Committee, Pi Sigma Alpha Honor Society, National Scholar Honor Society, and Artist Lecture Series Committee. He is past chair of the MSU Judicial Committee, a past MSU Student Ambassador and Student Government Association Senator, past president of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity and the Interfraternity Council, and a past member of the Order of Omega Honor Society and MSU President’s Honor Roll. Reyna received a bachelor’s degree in political science and is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration from Midwestern State University.

Stephen F. Austin State University

Sydni Mitchell of Spring is a student at Stephen F. Austin State University (SFASU). She is president of the SFASU Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society, a member of the Phi Upsilon Omicron Honor Society and National Council of Family Relations, and vice chair of the Society for the Advancement of Management Community Service Committee. She is also past president of the SFASU Child and Family Development Club, a past senator for the SFASU Student Government Association, and past student ambassador for the School of Human Sciences. Mitchell is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in child and family development from SFASU.

Texas Southern University

Bianca Brock of Beaumont is a student at Texas Southern University. She is a Texas Southern University Honors Scholar, Pre-Pharmacy Scholar and Honor Roll student. She is also a residential assistant for Texas Southern University Housing and a peer mentor at the Texas Southern University Urban Academic Village. Brock is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biology from Texas Southern University.

Texas State University

Christopher Covo of San Antonio is a student at Texas State University. He is president of the Texas State University Associated Student Government and Texas State University Student Foundation. He is a member of the Liberal Arts Student Advisory Council and Texas State University Student Justice Hearing Board. He is also a past university liaison for the San Marcos City Council, past student senator of the Texas State University Associated Student Government, and past member of the State University System Alumni Relations Student Liaison Committee.   Covo is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in political science from Texas State University.

Texas Tech University

Jeffrey Harris of San Angelo is a student at Angelo State University (ASU). He is president of the ASU Student Government, and a member of the American Student Government Association and Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He is also a past student senator for the ASU College of Liberal and Fine Arts. Harris is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in government from ASU.

Texas Woman’s University

Sarah Adams of Whitehouse is a student at Texas Woman’s University (TWU). She is student vice president of TWU Phi Kappa Phi, a student representative for the TWU Undergraduate Council, student senator for the TWU College of Arts and Sciences, and president of the Athenian Honor Society. She is also a member of the TWU Leadership Institute, a mentor for the Students 4 Success Retention Mentoring Program, and volunteer and past coordinator of the Expanding Your Horizons Honors Scholar Mentor Program. Adams is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry from TWU.

University of Houston

Andrew Cobos of Tomball is a student at the University of Houston Law Center and the University of Houston Bauer College of Business. He is a member of the Houston Young Lawyers Association and Veterans of Foreign Wars, a Harris County Court Appointed Mediator, and president of the Houston Military Law Society. He is also a member of the University of Houston Advocates Society and a volunteer for The People’s Law School. Cobos served as an officer in the U.S. Army and was a platoon leader and executive officer for the Military Police Corps. He received a bachelor’s degree in geography from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration and a law degree from the University of Houston.

University of North Texas

Jonathan Gallegos of San Angelo is a student at the University of North Texas (UNT). He is co-owner and co-founder of Spyre Marketing Group LLP, and a member of the Beta Alpha Psi Honors Accounting Organization. He is a past student senator for the UNT College of Business, past chair of the Student Government Fiscal Committee, and a past UNT Student Government Sergeant at Arms. He is also a past UNT Residence Life Advisory Delegate and a past member of the Raupe Travel Grant Selection Committee. Gallegos is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in accounting from UNT.

University of Texas

Kyle Kalkwarf of San Antonio is a student at the University of Texas Health Science Center (UTHSC). He is the 2011 Class President of the UTHSC School of Medicine, an executive board member of the University of Texas System Student Advisory Counsel, and a member of the UTHSC Dean’s Committee for the Medical School Accreditation. He is also a student member of the American Medical Association, Texas Medical Association, and Bexar County Medical Society. Kalkwarf is a first lieutenant in the Texas Army National Guard, and served as a captain in the U.S. Army. He received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and is pursuing a medical degree at UTHSC at San Antonio.

Higher Education Coordinating Board

Eric Rohne of Corpus Christi is a student at Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC). He is a member of the TAMU-CC Student Accounting Society and Campus Activities Board, past president of the Student Government Association, and a past student ambassador for the High School Summer Bridge Program. He is also past vice president of recruitment for the TAMU-CC Interfraternity Council, past freshman mentor for the Tide Advocate Program, and past president of the Order of Omega Greek Honor Society. Rohne is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in finance from TAMU-CC.
