Gov. Perry Appoints Herring as Canadian River Compact Commissioner
Gov. Rick Perry has appointed James E. Herring of Amarillo as the Canadian River Compact Commissioner for a term to expire Dec. 31, 2015. The commission administers the Canadian River Compact to ensure Texas receives its equitable share of quality water from the Canadian River and its tributaries as apportioned by the compact, which includes the states of New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
Herring is president and chief executive officer of Friona Industries L.P. He is past president and past director of the Texas Cattle Feeders Association, and past chair of the Cal Farley's Boys Ranch Foundation and the Texas Water Development Board. He is also past director of the Harrington Cancer Center and Cal Farley's Boy's Ranch. He served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.
Herring received a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.
This appointment is subject to Senate confirmation.
