Gov. Perry Appoints Steen to State Preservation Board
Gov. Rick Perry has appointed Ida Louise ‘Weisie' Steen of San Antonio to the State Preservation Board for a term to expire Feb. 1, 2013. The board oversees preservation and maintenance of the Texas State Capitol and buildings within the Capitol Complex and their contents and grounds, and operates the Texas State History Museum. The board is also overseeing the restoration of the Texas Governor's Mansion after it incurred severe damage by arson in June 2008.
Steen is an investor, former teacher and school administrator, and a director of Frost National Bank and its parent company, Cullen/Frost Bankers Inc. She is a former regent of the Texas A&M University System, chair of the Texas A&M Campus Art and Aesthetic Improvement Committee, and a member of the Texas A&M committees on Finance, and Academic and Student Affairs. She is an advisory council member and past board chair of the San Antonio Academy, a sponsor of the Charity Ball Association, and past trustee of the Santa Rosa Children's Hospital Foundation Endowment Fund, Ecumenical Center for Religion and Health, and Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital Foundation. She is also a past co-chair of San Antonio's Cattle Barons Gala benefitting the American Cancer Society, past chair of the 2011 Texas Inaugural Committee, and a past member of the 2007 Texas Inaugural Committee.
Steen received a bachelor's degree from Trinity University.
