Gov. Perry Names Barrera Chair of Texas State Board of Public Accountancy
Gov. Rick Perry has named A. Carlos Barrera of Brownsville chair of the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy, and appointed five members to the board for terms to expire Jan. 31, 2017. The board regulates public accountants and administers the certified public accountant (CPA) exam in Texas.
Barrera is a CPA and partner at Long Chilton LLP. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, Texas Society of CPAs, Rio Grande Valley Chapter of the Texas Society of CPAs, Governmental Finance Officers Association, and Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. He is also a board member of the Valley Zoological Society and Endowment Fund, past board member of the Brownsville and South Texas Independent School districts, and past president of the Brownsville Economic Development Corporation, Brownsville Rotary Club, and United Way of Southern Cameron County. Barrera received a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He will serve as chair of the board for a term to expire at the pleasure of the governor.
J. Coalter Baker of Austin is a self-employed CPA and personal financial specialist. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and Texas Society of CPAs, and a board member of the Stephen F. Austin Society and Austin Boys and Girls Clubs Endowment Fund. He is a past member of the AICPA Professional Ethics Executive and Tax Responsibilities committees, and the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy Nominating and Ethics committees. He is also past president and past executive director of the West Austin Youth Association, a past member of the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, and is a graduate of Leadership Austin. Baker received a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas.
John Broaddus of El Paso is a CPA and shareholder of Schmid, Broaddus, Nugent and Gano PC. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, a member and past executive board member of the Texas Society of CPAs, and a member and past president of the El Paso Chapter of the Texas Society of CPAs. He is also a board member of the El Paso Metro Area YMCA and El Paso Metro Area YMCA Foundation, past presiding officer of the Camino Real Regional Mobility Authority, and past president of the El Paso Art Alliance. Broaddus received a bachelor's degree from Southern Methodist University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas.
Jonathan Cluck of Fair Oaks Ranch is a partner at the Nunley Firm. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, San Antonio and Medina Bar associations, and Texas Association of Bank Counsel, a board member of Hill Country Dispute Resolution Center, and a member, past director and past president of the Kendall County Bar Association. He is a member of the Kendall County Sheriff's Advisory Board, Alamo Kiwanis Club, Texas Germania Farmer's Verein-Anhalt, and Kendall County Masonic Lodge #897. He is also a life member of the San Antonio Livestock Exposition, an Eagle Scout and assistant scoutmaster of Troop 1920 for the Boerne Boy Scouts of America. Cluck received a bachelor's degree from Baylor University and a law degree from St. Mary's University School of Law.
Rocky Duckworth of Houston is a CPA and retired partner at KPMG LLP. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and Texas and Oklahoma Societies of CPAs, and a past member of the Independent Petroleum Association of America. He is a member of Oklahoma State University (OSU) School of Accounting Advisory Board and OSUs William S. Speers School of Business Hall of Fame, and a past member of the Sam Houston Council of the Boy Scouts of America Board of Directors. Duckworth served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserves. He received a bachelor's degree from Oklahoma State University.
Catherine Rodewald of Dallas is president of Prudential Asset Resources and managing director of Prudential Mortgage Capital Company. She is a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association and Commercial Real Estate Finance Council, and a board member of the International Women's Forum/Dallas, Dallas Regional Chamber of Commerce, and Parkland Foundation. She is also a past board member of the Dallas Women's Foundation, YWCA of Greater Dallas and the Dallas Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Rodewald received a bachelor's degree from Northwood University. She is being reappointed.
