Gov. Perry Names Cargill Chair of State Board of Education
Gov. Rick Perry has named Barbara Cargill of The Woodlands chair of the State Board of Education for a term to expire Feb. 1, 2013. The board and education commissioner oversee the state's public school system.
Cargill is founder and director of Wonders of the Woodlands (WOW!) Science Camp. She is an elected member of the State Board of Education, with more than six years of service, and is currently chair of the board's Committee on Instruction. She is a past member of the Commission for College Ready Texas, Junior League of North Harris County and The Woodlands Children's Museum Steering Committee. She is a past recipient of the Thanks to Teachers National Excellence Award, National Audubon Society Award, and A.J. Sales Educational Award. She is also a volunteer for Interfaith of The Woodlands, Tamina Community Center and The Woodlands United Methodist Church.
Cargill received a bachelor's degree from Baylor University and a master's degree in science education from Texas Woman's University.
