Gov. Perry Appoints Three to Nursing Facility Administrators Advisory Committee
Gov. Rick Perry has appointed three members to the Nursing Facility Administrators Advisory Committee. The committee advises Texas Health and Human Services Commission board on licensing and regulation of nursing facility administrators.
David A. Smith of Brownwood is a physician in private practice. He is a member of the American and Texas Medical associations, American Academy of Family Practice and its Texas Chapter, and the Texas Geriatrics Society. He is a board member of the Texas Medical Directors Association and Central Texas Mental Health and Mental Retardation Center. He is also past president and a member of the American Medical Directors Association, and a volunteer with Brown County Disaster Response. Smith received a bachelor's degree and a medical degree from the University of Nebraska. He is appointed for a term to expire Feb. 1, 2015.
Susan Farris of Springtown is president and executive director of the James L. West Alzheimer Center in Fort Worth. She is president of the Texas Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Administrators, and a member of LeadingAge Texas, the Texas State University Long Term Care Advisory Council, and Downtown Fort Worth Rotary Club. Farris received a bachelor's degree in natural sciences from the University of Texas at Austin and completed nursing facility administrator training at Texas State University. She is reappointed for a term to expire Feb. 1, 2017.
Linda Strong of Corpus Christi is a former registered nurse. She is a member of the Nueces County Beach Management Advisory Committee and Clowns Who Care of Driscoll Hospital, and a board member of the Art Museum of South Texas. Strong received a nursing degree from the University of Texas at Galveston. She is reappointed for a term to expire Feb. 1, 2017.
