Gov. Perry Appoints Benson to Interagency Council for Genetic Services

Gov. Rick Perry has appointed T. Craig Benson of Austin to the Interagency Council for Genetic Services for a term to expire Sept. 1, 2013. The council evaluates the need for human genetic services in Texas and promotes a common statewide database to study human genetic disorders.

Benson is president of Myriad RBM Inc. and founding director of the Beyond Batten Disease Foundation. He is a board member of Heartland Bank, the Batten Disease Support and Research Association and the Menninger Clinic Foundation, and a member of the Austin Young Presidents' Organization. He is also a past board member of the American Cancer Society of Houston, past member of the World Economic Forum, and past co-chair of the Houston Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Jewel Ball.

Benson received a bachelor's degree from Southern Methodist University.
