Gov. Perry Appoints Adams and Huggins to Texas Early Learning Council
Gov. Rick Perry has appointed Michele Adams of Georgetown and Jonel Huggins of Kyle to the Texas Early Learning Council for terms to expire at the pleasure of the governor. The council will assess early childhood education and care programs across the state and develop opportunities for collaboration and coordination among state and federally-funded child development entities, and child care and early education programs to ensure children have access to high quality programs.
Adams is assistant commissioner of child care licensing for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. She is a certified playground safety inspector for the National Recreation and Parks Association, and a former certified CPR/first aid instructor for the Dallas Area Chapter of the American Red Cross. Adams received a bachelor's degree from Southern Methodist University.
Huggins is a program specialist and 619 coordinator for the Texas Education Agency Division of Special Programs, and a former special education teacher. She is a member of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act Consortium of State 619 Coordinators and the U.S. Department of Education Texas Expanding Opportunities Initiative Team. Huggins received a bachelor's degree and master's degree in special education from Ohio University, and is currently pursuing an Educational Leadership Certification from Texas State University.
