Gov. Perry Appoints Garza and Schams to Pharmaceuticals and Therapeutics Committee
Gov. Rick Perry has appointed Rene Garza of Austin and Scott Schams of College Station to the Pharmaceuticals and Therapeutics Committee for terms to expire Sept. 1, 2013. The committee makes recommendations about the contents of preferred drug lists.
Garza is a pharmacist and owner of Stonegate Pharmacy. He is a board member of the Alliance of Independent Pharmacy and Texas Pharmacy Business Council, and a member of the Texas Pharmacy Association, American Pharmacists Association, National Community Pharmacist Association, and International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists. Garza received a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Texas College of Pharmacy.
Schams is a board-certified pediatrician and partner of Pediatric Group Practice, and president of the University Pediatric Association, and an assistant clinical professor of pediatrics at the Texas A&M Medical School. He is an advisor and past board member of Aggieland Pregnancy Outreach Adoption Agency, a member of the Texas Medical Association, American College of Physician Executives, Wilderness Medicine Society, and Texas Medical Foundation, and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is also a member of the Texas Department of State Health Services Medicaid Advisory Council and American Academy of Pediatrics National Section on Administrative Practice and Management, an expert panel member of the Texas Medical Board, and a past board member and past president of the Brazos Valley Physician Organization. Schams received a bachelor's degree from Baylor University, a medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, and a master's degree in applied organizational management from Tusculum College in Tennessee.
