Gov. Perry Appoints Melchor to Texas Council on Autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorders

Gov. Rick Perry has appointed Nyria Melchor of Plano to the Texas Council on Autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorders for a term to expire Feb. 1, 2014. The council advises and makes recommendations to state agencies and the Texas Legislature to ensure the needs of people with autism and other pervasive developmental disorders and their families are addressed, and all available resources are coordinated to meet those needs.

Melchor is a community volunteer and member of the State Bar of Texas. She is a volunteer for the Plano Independent School District and a former special education volunteer at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.

Melchor received a bachelor's degree and a law degree from Harvard University.
