Gov. Perry Reappoints Ederer and Steen to Texas Racing Commission
Gov. Rick Perry has reappointed Ron Ederer of Corpus Christi and John Steen III of Houston to the Texas Racing Commission for terms to expire Feb. 1, 2019. The commission oversees pari-mutuel wagering on horse and greyhound racing.
Ederer is an attorney in private practice and an adjunct professor at Texas A&M Corpus Christi. He previously served as the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Texas, and as a U.S. magistrate and assistant U.S. attorney for the U.S. Justice Department. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas and San Antonio Bar Association, and a member and past president of the National Association of Former U.S. Attorneys. He is also a past member of the American Bar Association and Civil Justice Reform Advisory Committee for the Western District of Texas, and past president of the El Paso Federal Bar Association. Ederer served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Military Police Corps. He received a bachelor's degree from North Texas State University, now the University of North Texas, and a law degree from St. Mary's University School of Law.
Steen is vice president of business development for Sage Midstream LLC. He is a chartered financial analyst (CFA) charterholder and a past member of the State Board of Dental Examiners. He is also an Eagle Scout and life member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas. Steen received a bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University, a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of Business, and a master's degree in international studies from the University of Pennsylvania.
These appointments are subject to Senate confirmation.
