Gov. Perry Names Wong Chair of Texas Board of Professional Engineers

Gov. Rick Perry has named Daniel Wong of Missouri City chair of the Texas Board of Professional Engineers, and has also appointed two members to the board. The board licenses qualified engineers, enforces the Texas Engineering Practice Act and regulates the practice of professional engineering in Texas.

Wong is CEO of Tolunay-Wong Engineers. He is a member of American Society of Civil Engineers, Texas Society of Professional Engineers and University of Houston Civil Engineering Advisory Board, past president of the Asian American Architects and Engineers Association, and a past board member of the Houston Council of Engineering Companies. He is also a trustee of the Fort Bend Economic Development Council, past member of the Sugar Land City Council, and past board member of the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce, Houston-Galveston Area Council, and University of Houston Alumni Association. Wong received a bachelor's degree, a master's degree in civil engineering and a doctorate of civil engineering from the University of Houston. He will serve as chair of the board for a term to expire at the pleasure of the governor.

Sina Nejad of Beaumont is president of Sigma Engineers Inc. He is a member of the National and Texas societies of Professional Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers and American Concrete Institute, a charter member of the Structural Engineering Institute, a founding member of the Architectural Engineering Institute, and president of the Sabine Chapter of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers. He is chairman of the Lamar University Civil Engineering Advisory Council, and City of Beaumont Planning and Zoning Commission and Building Code Board of Adjustment and Appeals, and a board member of the Lamar University Foundation Board of Directors and CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital Advisory Board. He is also past president and current director of the Anayat House, a member of the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce, past board member of the United Way of Beaumont and North Jefferson County, Goodwill Industries of Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana, and Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School, and a member and past president of the Symphony of Southeast Texas. Nejad received a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in engineering from Lamar University. He is appointed for a term to expire Sept. 26, 2013.

Kyle Womack of Horseshoe Bay is a licensed professional engineer and vice president of business expansion at Parkhill, Smith and Cooper Inc. He is a member and former director of the National Society of Professional Engineers, member and past president of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers, and a member and past board member of the Texas Council of Engineering Companies. He is past president of the American Society of Civil Engineers West Texas Chapter and Texas Society of Professional Engineers Permian Basin Chapter, and a past member of the American Council of Engineering Companies Senior Executive Institute. He is also a member and past president of the Midland Chamber of Commerce, Midland-Odessa Transportation Alliance and Buffalo Trail Council of the Boys Scouts of America, a graduate of Leadership Midland, and a past member of the Permian Basin Business School Advisory Council at The University of Texas. Womack received a bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University. He is appointed for a term to expire Sept. 26, 2017.

These appointments are subject to Senate confirmation.
