Gov. Perry Reappoints Crain and Peterson to Texas Historical Commission

Gov. Rick Perry has reappointed John Crain of Dallas and Gilbert "Pete" Peterson III of Alpine to the Texas Historical Commission for terms to expire Feb. 1, 2019. The commission works to preserve Texas' architectural, archeological and cultural landmarks.

Crain is president and CEO of The Summerlee Foundation. He is an executive committee member and past president of Friends of the Texas Governor's Mansion, a board member of the Southern Methodist University William P. Clements Center for Southwest Studies, and past president and honorary life board member of the Texas State Historical Association. He is a board member and past vice president of the Historic Preservation League, an advisory director of the Texas State History Museum Foundation, and an ex officio member of The Sixth Floor Museum. He is also past chairman of the Dallas County Historical Commission and City of Dallas Landmark Commission. Crain received a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas, a master's degree in history from Southwest Texas State University, now Texas State University, and certificates in arts administration from Harvard University and museum management from the University of California at Berkeley.

Peterson is the investments officer at West Texas National Bank in Alpine. He is president of the Museum of the Big Bend Advisory Board and Davis Mountains Trans-Pecos Heritage Association, vice president of Friends of the Center for Big Bend Studies, a board member of Friends of the Texas Governor's Mansion, and a board member and past president of Leadership Big Bend. He is also a member of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, a past board member of the Alpine Public Library, past president of the Rotary Club of Alpine, and past treasurer of the Alpine Chamber of Commerce. Peterson received a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in broadcast and film art from Southern Methodist University.
