Gov. Perry Appoints Three to University of Houston System Board of Regents

Gov. Rick Perry has appointed three members to the University of Houston System Board of Regents for terms to expire Aug. 31, 2019.

Durga D. Agrawal of Houston is president and CEO of Piping Technology and Products, and director of the Agrawal Association of America. He is a member of the National and Texas societies of Professional Engineers, University of Houston Department of Industrial Engineering Advisory, Alumni and Cullen College of Engineering Leadership boards, and the India Cultural Community and Industry Trade Advisory Committee. He is also a past member of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, a member of the board of advisors and past president of the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Houston, board member of Friedman Industries, and a member and past president of India House Houston. Agrawal received a bachelor's degree from the University of Delhi College of Engineering in India and a master's and doctorate degree in industrial engineering from the University of Houston.

Paula Mendoza of Houston is president and CEO of Possible Missions. She is a commissioner of the Texas Ethics Commission and a board member of the East End Chamber of Commerce Foundation. She is past chairman of the Texas Ethics Commission, Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of Commerce and its Education Foundation, and the MD Anderson Family YMCA. She is also a past board member of the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy, Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans, Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Alliance of Minority Contractors of Houston, City of Houston Affirmative Action Advisory Commission, Navidad en el Barrio, and Texas Southern University Barbara Jordan-Mickey Leland School of Public Affairs Community Advisory Council. Mendoza received a bachelor's degree from the University of Houston-Downtown.

Peter Taaffe of Austin is an attorney with the Buzbee Law Firm. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, board member of the University of Houston Center for U.S. and Mexican Law Advisory Board, and a former adjunct professor at the University of Houston Law Center. He is a past member of the State Bar of Texas Pro Bono College and the Robert W. Calvert American Inn of Court, a past board member of the University of Houston Law Center Alumni Association, and a founder and past president of the University of Texas Phi Gamma Delta Alumni Advisory Board. He is also a former volunteer for Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas, Mobile Loaves and Fishes and the Westlake Youth Basketball Association. Taaffe received a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas and a law degree from the University of Houston Law Center.
