Gov. Perry Appoints Carr as Justice of 8th Court of Appeals

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry has announced the appointment of Kenneth R. Carr of El Paso as Justice of the 8th Court of Appeals, serving 17 counties in the west Texas area. Carr will serve until the next general election. Carr is a shareholder and practicing attorney in labor and employment law at Ray, Valdez, McChristian and Jeans, P.C. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the El Paso Bar Association, the El Paso Chamber of Commerce and the Society for Human Resource Management. Carr serves as general counsel and board member for the Paso del Norte Better Business Bureau, and is former commissioner of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. He is a former board member of the El Paso Symphony Orchestra and the El Paso Lighthouse for the Blind, and previously served as treasurer of the El Paso Zoological Society. He served as the associate editor of the Texas Law Review, an independent journal that is edited and published by students at the University of Texas (UT) School of Law. Carr is board certified in labor law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Since 1989, he has been listed in the labor and employment section of Best Lawyers in America. He has also been listed as Texas Monthly’s “Texas Super Lawyers,” under the labor and employment section since 2003. Carr received a bachelor’s degree in history from Rice University and a law degree from the UT School of Law. This appointment is subject to senate confirmation.
