Governor Appoints 5 to Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council
AUSTIN–Gov. Rick Perry has announced the appointment of five individuals to the Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council for terms to expire Jan. 1, 2010. The council helps federal, state and local agencies develop and implement an integrated, statewide program for emergency medical services.
Dr. Joan Shook of Bellaire is a professor of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine. She is a member of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, Ambulatory Pediatric Association, the Houston Society for Emergency Physicians and the American Academy of Pediatrics. She serves as a member of the Texas Pediatric Society and the Harris County Medical Society. She received a bachelor’s degree from Brown University in Rhode Island and a master’s degree at the University of Houston. She received her medical degree at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
Ferris Shaheen of Levelland is owner and operator of Levelland EMS Corporation. He is a member of the Texas Ambulance Association, the American Ambulance Association, the Texas Narcotics Officer’s Association and the Texas Reserve Peace Officer’s Association. He serves on the board of the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Association and is a member of the Levelland Lions Club. He received a bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University.
John Simms of Brenham is chief executive officer of Trinity Medical Center. He serves as a trustee of Texas Hospital Association, Texas Hospital Insurance Exchange, Washington County Economic Development Foundation and past president of Brenham Rotary Club. He received a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Trinity University.
Vance Riley of Victoria is fire chief for the city of Victoria. He is immediate past president of the Texas Fire Chiefs Association, secretary of the Victoria Rotary Club and chairperson of Golden Crescent Homeland Securities Committee. Riley received a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and a master’s degree from Drake University in Iowa. He is a graduate of the National Fire Academy in Maryland.
David Jimenez of El Paso is a federal law enforcement intelligence analyst for the United States Border Patrol. He received a bachelor’s degree from Park College in Missouri and a master’s degree from Webster University in Missouri. These appointments are subject to senate confirmation.
