Gov. Perry Appoints Two to Texas State Cemetery Committee
Names Scott Sayers as Chair
AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today announced the appointments of John Emmett Lyle of Houston and Scott P. Sayers, Jr., of Austin to the Texas State Cemetery Committee, naming Sayers as chair. The three-member committee oversees the day to day operations of the state cemetery.
Lyle is an attorney for Falcon Seaboard Holdings and a member of the board of directors for numerous other Falcon Seaboard companies. He has served as a state representative and a U.S. representative. He also served in the U.S. Army as an operations officer from 1942 until 1944, where he earned a Purple Heart. Lyle is a member of the Texas and American Bar Associations and served on the State Board of Directors for the State Bar Association. Lyle has served on presidential commissions under Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Reagan and Clinton. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a law degree from the Houston School of Law. His term will expire Feb. 1, 2007.
Sayers is a sports agent and business manager for professional golfer Ben Crenshaw. He is past president of the West Austin Youth Association, served on the Lake Austin Advisory Panel, and is co-chair of the Lifetime Sports Committee for the Austin Independent School District Athletic Task Force. He is a member of Friends of the Governor’s Mansion, Hospice Austin and co-founder of the Stephen F. Austin Society. Sayers earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin. His term will expire Feb. 1, 2009.
