RP5 - Granting State Employees One Hour of Leave

WHEREAS, the people of our state have been profoundly affected and shaken by the senseless attacks on our nation this week; and
WHEREAS, these tragic events have caused pain and anguish for the people of Texas; and
WHEREAS, it is good that we seek ways to express our grief together in communities of faith and groups of support that can provide comfort in these times of distress and mourning; and
WHEREAS, George W. Bush, President of the United States, has declared Friday, September 14, 2001, as a National Day of Prayer and Rememberance for the Victims of the Terrorist Attacks on September 11, 2001.
NOW, THEREFORE, I Rick Perry, Governor of the State of Texas, by virtue of the power and authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the State of Texas, do hereby order the following:
State agency head shall grant employees on hour of leave on Friday, September 14, 2001, to attend ceremonies of rememberances to express their grief and mourn the loss of life caused by these tragic events.
This executive order supersedes all previous orders and shall remain in effect in full force until modified, amended, rescinded, or superseded by me or by a succeeding Governor.
