Statement by Gov. Rick Perry on Death of Liz Carpenter

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today issued the following statement on the death of Texas icon, Liz Carpenter:

"Liz Carpenter was a Texas trailblazer whose fierce independence and sharp mind consistently placed her near the center of power throughout her life. She embodied the legendary qualities of Texas women and showed America that gender is irrelevant when it comes to getting the job done. Her voice will be missed, but not forgotten. Anita and I extend our sincere condolences and prayers to her family, friends and admirers all over the world."
