Gov. Rick Perry today met with Gov. Rodrigo Medina de la Cruz of Nuevo Leon, Mexico, and business leaders from Texas and Nuevo Leon to discuss issues important to both states, including security, border security, economic competitiveness and continued cross border relations.

"Here in Texas, we have a shared interest with our counterparts in Mexico to protect our communities and strengthen our economies," Gov. Perry said. "We are committed to securing the international border between our countries in order to protect our citizens and the legitimate cross border trade and travel that will help bring jobs to each of our states."

Texas has a rich history with Mexico and shares a border of more than 1,200 miles. Mexico is Texas' largest trading partner, with more than $56 billion in Texas products exported and more than $115 billion in Mexican goods imported in 2009. Texas, the number one exporting state in the U.S., sends 34 percent of its exports to Mexico.
