Gov. Perry to Have Surgery to Repair Torn Meniscus
Wednesday, June 02, 2010 Austin, Texas Press Release
Gov. Rick Perry will undergo arthroscopic debridement on Friday in Austin to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. As required by the Texas Constitution, the Office of the Governor has notified Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst of the procedure so that he may be prepared to assume the duties of governor while Gov. Perry is temporarily unable to serve.
The surgery is an hour long outpatient procedure done by Dr. Carey Windler, who performed the same procedure on the governor's right knee in 2001. The procedure will require two incisions, roughly one-quarter to one-half an inch in size.
