Gov. Perry Announces Nominations for Star of Texas Awards
Gov. Rick Perry today announced nominations are currently being accepted for the 2010 Star of Texas Awards, which honor peace officers, firefighters and emergency medical first responders who were killed or sustained a serious injury in the line of duty. Nominations for this year's awards must be submitted by July 31, with the awards ceremony taking place on September 7.
"The Star of Texas Awards recognize the peace officers, firefighters and emergency medical personnel who have made careers out of selflessly dedicating their lives to keeping us safe," Gov. Perry said. "Although we can never adequately thank them and their families for their sacrifice and service to our state, these awards honor the bravery and commitment of those who have fallen or been injured while protecting our communities."
The Star of Texas Awards were created by the Texas Legislature in 2003, and are issued annually. To be eligible for the 2010 awards, the critical incident must have occurred between Sept. 1, 2003 and June 30, 2010.
