Gov. Perry: San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Helps Promote, Power South Texas Economy

Tuesday, July 27, 2010  •  San Antonio, Texas  •  Press Release

Gov. Rick Perry today credited Texas' growing economy to a business friendly climate that attracts new businesses and jobs. The governor spoke at a press conference announcing the new San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SAHCC) office.

"With your focus on Hispanic-owned businesses, you have helped countless companies break down barriers and contribute to the local economy in very tangible ways," Gov. Perry said. "Your success not only serves as an inspiration to your neighbors here in San Antonio, it also rolls out a welcome mat to other employers who are looking for a friendly community with an unbeatable work ethic."

SAHCC's new offices will be located at The Pearl, formerly known as the Pearl Brewery. Built in 1883, The Pearl was purchased by Silver Ventures in 2002 and redeveloped as a commercial, cultural and residential center.
Gov. Perry also expressed the need for the Federal Government to exercise fiscal restraint and keep taxes low on businesses.

"These same employers that are creating jobs for Texans are also facing a big tax increase if the Obama administration allows the Bush tax credits to expire," Gov. Perry said. "This is the key reason that I have called for a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution, so that Washington would have to exercise the same fiscal restrain that sensible businesses and families have long employed."

The SAHCC advocates for the growth of Hispanic businesses in San Antonio. The SAHCC is the oldest of its kind, the first chamber in San Antonio and the first Hispanic chamber in the U.S. to be accredited by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, receiving its designation as a 4-Star Accredited Chamber.
