Statement by Gov. Rick Perry on U.S. House Passing Congressman Burgess’ Amendment to H.R. 1

Saturday, February 19, 2011  •  Austin, Texas  •  Press Release

Gov. Rick Perry today issued the following statement on the U.S. House passing Congressman Burgess’ amendment to H.R. 1, relating to accessing Texas’ share of funding from the Education Jobs Bill from 2010:

“I commend the U.S. House for passing Congressman Burgess’ amendment to H.R. 1, which would prohibit the U.S. Department of Education from enforcing the anti-Texas Doggett provisions of the Education Jobs Bill passed in 2010. With 48 out of 50 states having already received their share of the funds from the Education Jobs Bill, I hope the U.S. Senate will also approve this measure to help right a wrong, apply equity to Texas, and quickly get $830 million to Texas schools, teachers and children.”
