Statement by Gov. Rick Perry on Passage of House Concurrent Resolution 18

Thursday, May 19, 2011  •  Austin, Texas  •  Press Release

Gov. Rick Perry has issued the following statement on the passage of House Concurrent Resolution 18, which calls for an amendment to the U.S. Constitution providing for a federal balanced budget:

"A constitutional limit on Washington's excessive spending and borrowing is crucial to getting our country back on track to economic stability and prosperity. Now more than ever, we need the federal government to live within its means, using the same fiscal discipline that families and employers do every day. I commend the Texas Senate for passing HCR 18, and applaud Rep. Creighton and Sen. Shapiro for their leadership on this measure, which is an important step forward in the effort to bring greater fiscal responsibility to our government in Washington."
