Gov. Perry to Have Surgery to Repair Clavicle

Thursday, February 23, 2012  •  Austin, Texas  •  Press Release

Gov. Rick Perry will undergo a 90 minute outpatient procedure on Friday morning in Austin to repair his right clavicle, which did not heal properly after a 2009 bicycle accident. As required by the Texas Constitution, the Office of the Governor has notified Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst of the surgery so that he may be prepared to assume the duties of governor if Gov. Perry is temporarily unable to serve.

The operation will be performed by Dr. Bruce Malone. It will require one incision, roughly three inches in length, and the placement of a contoured plate.
