Statement by Gov. Perry on Death of Rep. Ken Legler
Gov. Rick Perry issued the following statement regarding the death of Rep. Ken Legler:
"Ken was a dedicated public servant who enthusiastically represented the people of his district throughout his time in Austin. He knew the value of hard work and was always ready to take on the issues that were important to his constituency. Anita and I extend our sincere condolences and prayers to his wife, Barbara, their three children and his extended family and friends."
Gov. Perry ordered Texas and U.S. flags statewide to be lowered to half-staff immediately. Flags outside House District 144 should return to full-staff on Sunday, June 3. Flags in Texas House District 144 should remain at half-staff through sunset on the day of the funeral.
All flags statewide should be lowered again on the day of the funeral, and return to full-staff at sunset or the end of that display day. Individuals, businesses, municipalities, counties, and other political subdivisions are encouraged to fly flags at half-staff for the same length of time.
