Gov. Perry Speaks at the National Federation of Independent Business Annual Conference
Gov. Rick Perry spoke at the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Small Business Legislative Discussion and Roundtables, highlighting his priorities to keep Texas on an upward trajectory by strengthening the state's competitive jobs climate and calling on the Legislature to provide tax relief, invest in infrastructure, and improve access and choice in both public and higher education.
"Texas is doing its part to build a strong America by creating a climate where an employer has the opportunity to thrive and be competitive on a global scale," Gov. Perry said. "Thanks to the hard work, innovative spirit and dedication of Texas entrepreneurs, and the discipline of state leadership in Austin, our economy is growing, our future is limitless and our jobs-friendly climate provides a solid foundation for companies to build upon."
The governor is committed to strengthening the economic environment that has made Texas a leader in job creation and allowed entrepreneurs to confidently invest their capitol by committing to low taxes, reasonable and predictable regulations, fair courts and cultivating a workforce that stands ready to fill any need an employer could have. Gov. Perry also highlighted his recent economic development trip to California, where he met with companies who are looking to move or expand to tell them Texas' story of economic success.
The governor also discussed the principles of the Texas Budget Compact, which he has called on lawmakers to support this session. This includes practicing truth in budgeting, creating a stronger constitutional limit on our spending growth, opposing new taxes or tax increases and making the tax exemption for small business' permanent, streamlining government by doing away with duplicative programs, and preserving a strong Rainy Day Fund.
