Gov. Perry Announces $117,408 in Grants To Local Law Enforcement
AUSTIN - Gov. Rick Perry today awarded $117,408 to five local law enforcement departments to provide officers with new law enforcement technology and other equipment. These grants are awarded under the federal Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program and are distributed by the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division (CJD).
“These grants provide local law enforcement with updated equipment and necessary resources enabling them to better serve their communities and protect our citizens,” Perry said.
Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grants provide support to state and local governments for a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime and to improve the criminal justice system.
Each year, CJD provides more that $130 million in grants to help Texans at the forefront of the fight against crime. CJD funds a variety of juvenile justice, criminal justice, and victim services programs – all aimed at making Texas a safer place.
