Gov. Perry Orders Lowering of Texas Flags in Honor of Rosa Parks
AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today ordered that flags on state property be lowered to half-staff in memory of Rosa “Lee” Louise Parks on the day of her internment, Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005.
“As a mark of respect for the memory of Rosa Parks and the pivotal role she played in the civil rights movement and in the history of the United States, it seems fitting that all Texas flags be flown at half-staff on the day she is laid to rest,” Perry said.
Under the governor’s order, flags will be lowered at the State Capitol, Capitol complex, Governor’s Mansion and all state office buildings and facilities across Texas on Wednesday, Nov. 2. President George W. Bush has issued a similar order for the United States flag. Individuals, businesses, municipalities, counties and other political subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.
