Governor Announces May 4 Special Election Date

Tuesday, November 13, 2001  •  Press Release

AUSTIN - Governor Rick Perry today set Saturday, May 4, 2002, as the special election date to fill the vacancy for House District 150. The seat was left vacant earlier this month with the death of Rep. Paul Hilbert, R-Houston. House District 150 consists of part of Harris County.

Candidates for this special election must file applications with the Secretary of State no later than April 3, 2002.

The May 4th date represents the next eligible uniform election date to fill that vacancy in the Texas House of Representatives. According to Texas law, a special election may be held before the uniform election date only if the Governor deems an emergency situation.

The representative elected in this special election will serve out the remainder of Hilbert's term.
